Family Loans to Help you Spread the Costs for back to School

We Want to Help Our Communities in Northumberland spread the costs of equipping a child before the start of the new school year, while also saving money!

How to apply

New Members:

You must be a member to apply for a loan with us!

Joining the community bank is straightforward, you can apply to be a member and apply for your family loan at the same time here:

Existing Members:

To apply for the Family Loan, simply log in to your Member Area or Mobile Banking App and click on ‘Apply for Loan’.

Once you have completed the short Family Loan application, you will need to contact the DWP and request that they pay your Child Benefit into your NCB account. When we receive your first payment, we will then look to process your loan application.

Please note that a member can only hold one Family Loan at any time.

How does it work?

When you take out a Family Loan with us to cover your child’s expenses, we’ll deduct your loan repayment out of your child benefit and pay the remainder into your savings account. By the time your loan has been repaid, you will also have built up over £100 in your savings account!

To take out a Family Loan with us, you’ll need to become a member and agree to have your Child Benefit paid into your Northumberland Community Bank account.

Is it right for me?

There are many benefits to choosing a Community Bank, from free savings and loan insurance protection, to knowing that your banking is helping the local community…

Apply as a non-member

To apply for a loan you will need first to become a member.  It couldn’t be simpler, just click the “Apply Now” below and fill out the short online application form. Usually, we can check your identity electronically avoiding the complications of providing proof of identity documents.

Once our checks are completed, (this usually under takes 24 hours), you will receive a welcome email providing you with your member number and easy instructions on how to activate your account and access your member area.

This is where you will be able to easily manage your account and apply for a loan.

Membership costs £1, we also only take a £1 annual administration fee and encourage members to make regular savings into their accounts (although these savings do not need to be a large amount!).
