Your Community Bank - Helping To Make Your Money Work For You

The Credit Union for South East Northumberland (CUSEN) and more recently, Tynedale Community Bank, have been providing local savings and loans services to the residents of Northumberland for more than 20 years. By coming together and combining our efforts, we can now offer to serve members across the whole of Northumberland.

What can we do for you?

  • We are a financial co-operative that encourages its members to borrow and save responsibly.
  • We provide an alternative to banks, building societies and high-interest loan providers, such as pay-day or doorstep lenders.
  • We encourage you to save what you can and borrow only what you can afford to repay.

How can you benefit?

  • From our easy, convenient and secure ways to save.
  • By access to loans you can afford to repay via our flexible payment plans.
  • Your savings and loans are protected by insurance and in the event of your death, your savings are doubled* and any outstanding loan is repaid. Read More

How does it work?

Members’ savings build funds which enable us to lend to other members. You don’t need to be a member before applying for a loan but you must become a member before receiving the funds. Interest charged on loans helps to pay the Community Bank’s running costs.

Northumberland Community Bank is run from an office in Ashington and currently has several contact points in many parts of the county. In addition, our members can use Northumberland County Council’s Customer Information Centres to pay money in by cash, cheque or by debit card - click here for details of the venues, opening times and facilities they offer.

Is your money safe?

We are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. All savings are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Do you offer any other services?

We provide Payroll Deduction schemes and Junior Savers Accounts - ask us for details.

We are also part of the LifeSavers Project which helps to promote financial education in schools, helping children to manage money wisely
